Fela Kuti - Water No Get Enemy - Expensive Shit - 1975
Fela Kuti - Yellow Fever - Yellow Fever - 1976

  1. nice post, can't beat a bit of Fela or Afrobeat for that matter. Water No Get Enemy is one of my fave tracks of all time - pure genius. If you have'nt already got it I suggest checking out 'Sound Affects Africa' for some lovely Afrobeat sounds. I did a post of a track way back in May.

  3. Sorry for the late reply.

Crybo - I haven't heard that - will look it up.

    You just gotta love Fela.

A good friend of mine is in Nigeria right now and just went to...

"Kalakuta!... which turns out to be really close to where I live. Fela's youngest son, Seun, still stays in the house and he's just released his first album, which sounds very much like Fela. So he played it for us and some old Fela. The place looks like a rundown hippie commune and ganja smoke is thick everywhere, but somehow its cosy. So we shared a plate of plantain and beans and Seun translated some of the lyrics to Fela songs that never made it onto released tracks but everyone could sing along to at the shrine."

  4. Yo

Just checking the Fela business, rerminds me of my wicked sunday I just had at the Dingwalls reunion party with Patrick Forge & the mighty Giles Peterson at Camden Lock, London. 1 year on since the last one & boy I can tell you the people went mad for Fela's Water No Get Enemy!! Mad party, met the legendary Keb Darge who unknown to me my friend had known for about 20years, one of the best Sundays I have ever had!! Wicked!

    Peace
